John discovered the fishkeeping hobby in 2004, during a time when aquascaping was still gaining momentum in the United States. He quickly became an active contributor on planted aquarium forums, where his passion for aquascaping took root and grew.
In 2007, he entered his first international aquascaping competition and placed in the top 100—a milestone that not only deepened his dedication to the craft but also sparked a new interest in photography. This creative exploration led to a career in commercial photography and, eventually, to his current role as Creative Director at Ultum Nature Systems (UNS).
Today, John photographs many of the aquascapes featured by UNS and remains a visible presence in the global aquascaping community. He regularly appears at aquarium trade shows to give live aquascaping demonstrations and hosts educational content on the UNS YouTube channel.
